How to Calculate Toll

If toll information is available for the countries for which routes are calculated, it is possible to use the PTV xRoute Server to calculate the toll costs (mainly for trucks). If the respective data is available, the exact toll costs would be calculated: The toll costs are calculated based on the vehicle profile and the exact distance travelled. For some countries, the toll costs are only calculated based on the kilometres travelled.

The toll costs can be calculated for most special toll-paying sections in Europe. There are toll sub-types available for mandatory tolls (e.g., Eco-Tax in France). Price and toll distance for this sub-type can be retrieved separately.

PTV xServer provides information on today’s and future toll scenarios and new toll roads since version 1.12 (or higher). By entering a departure date in the future, the calculation takes the correct scenario for that date into consideration.

The road network contains toll flags which are referenced to vehicle-based cost values. After a route calculation, toll costs will be automatically displayed if the option is enabled. The toll can be calculated station-based.

Please note that it is also possible to plan for future toll costs. The toll scenarios are implemented in order to estimate future expenses for itineraries as long as valid toll scenarios are available. But the availabilities depend on official announcements which are generally placed on the internet at irregular intervals.

PTV xRoute Server also supports the vehicle options which are mandatory in order to calculate the correct toll costs. Therefore the type and the dimensions of the vehicle must be set beforehand.

Getting the information from PTV xRoute or PTV xMapmatch Server a client-sided rendering is possible with PTV xMap Server. For example, you can visualise the road segments with toll.
