How to Find Addresses Using Aliases

The local spelling of towns and cities can differ significantly from the standardised spelling. With the CityAlias.txt file, you have the chance to replace this modified spelling with the standardised spelling. In addition, abbreviations such as license plate numbers can be replaced by the regular city name.

Concept

The CityAlias file is located in the detailedmap directory of the installed map and is divided into country-specific sections. The file can be opened and edited with a simple text editor. Below you can see the section for Germany.

The entries are divided into three columns, separated by "~". The entries per row are illustrated by the example "KA~Karlsruhe~DEU~" which you can see below:

The country abbreviation is necessary to limit the replacement of the character string to one country

If no country abbreviation is entered, the replacement will be applied globally!

Configuration Guide

The CityAlias file can be opened and edited with a simple text editor. Please note, that the entries in a row are separated and closed with "~".

The request below shows the Search for an Address using an alias, that has been defined in the CityAlias file ("KA~Karlsruhe~DEU~"). The request can be copied and directly executed in the raw request runner of you PTV xLocate Server.
