Restart and Shutdown

Restart Procedures

Individual service modules may be restarted online using the status monitor in the management console. This procedure will usually not abort or reject running or waiting requests but instead wait until currently active requests have finished, to proceed with the next waiting request after the request. Restarted module processes will obey changed configurations and read new maps and content if so configured.

The web server including all modules may be restarted online using the management console function. This procedure will abort running and waiting requests. The restarted web server will obey changed configurations except for the wrapper which is not restarted.

Shutdown Procedure

The best way is to use the wrapper command to shutdown the server.

Killing the process tree will terminate everything. This is also a "safe" procedure.

Killing a module process will automatically start a replacement module process.

Killing the PTV xServer process will leave the module processes "zombies" that will terminate themselves after a short time. The wrapper will automatically restart a new PTV xServer process which then starts new module processes.
